Top 5 Most Followed Special Needs Pets on Instagram

  1. Grumpy Cat (@realgrumpycat, 2.5M followers)

With over 2.5 million Instagram followers, Grumpy Cat is now a household name and officially one of the most influential cats of all time. A combination of her underbite and feline dwarfism caused her to have a permanently grumpy expression, and hence the name was born. She was much loved by her online fans throughout her life and was mourned by many across the world on her death in 2019. Thanks to Tabatha Bundesen, we will never forget the impact Grumpy Cat had on the internet world!

  1. Lil Bub (@iamlilbub, 2.4M followers)

Lil Bub was a much-loved American internet star owner adopted by Mike Bridavsky. She was the runt of her litter and born with several genetic mutations and an extreme form of feline dwarfism. This caused her limbs and lower jaw to be significantly smaller than the rest of her body. This meant that her tongue permanently stuck out of her mouth, creating her recognisable appearance. Although she passed away in 2019, she still has many fans who celebrate her life and adorableness online.

  1. Tuna (@tunameltsmyheart, 2.1M followers)

A Chihuahua Dachshund crossbreed, Tuna was originally abandoned by his owner before being adopted by Courtney Dasher. His amazing owner has since used Tuna’s large following to promote animal welfare and raise money for animal rescue groups. Tuna has an exaggerated overbite, recessed jaw and a shrivel neck. His Instagram account celebrates animals with physical differences, showing they are just as cute and worthy of love as any other animal.

  1. Marnie (@marniethedog, 1.7M followers)

Marnie was a rescue Shih Tzu owned by Shirley Braha. During her lifetime, Marine acquired a large social media following on Instagram and Twitter. She was known for her permanent head tilt to the left and her sticking-out tongue, which she developed as a result of vestibular disease. Before she was adopted, Marnie experienced some health problems including decaying teeth, partial visual impairment in her left eye, and partial hearing impairment. Because of Marnie’s health problems, Braha did not expect her to survive longer than a couple of weeks. Luckily, Marnie went on to have a happy life with her loving owner, and developed a huge social media following along the way!
